AUGUSTA, Maine — Three people were arrested on Thursday in a heroin bust conducted by Maine Drug Enforcement Agency officials with assistance from Augusta police and several other agencies, according to an MDEA statement.

Arrested and charged with heroin trafficking were Katelyn Dillingham, 19, and Robert Desjardins, 23, of Augusta, while Baron Thompson, 37, also of Augusta, is facing a heroin possession charge, according to the statement.

On Thursday, drug agents, Augusta police, Kennebec County sheriff’s deputies and a state police canine unit converged on a Washington Street apartment to conduct a search warrant, according to the statement.

The warrant was sought as part of an investigation into undercover heroin purchases from the three suspects, according to the statement.

Twelve grams of heroin worth about $4,500, a handgun, $2,000 in cash and other drug trafficking evidence were seized.

Two children, ages 1 and 2, were present at the home at the time of the warrant. It was not disclosed whose children they were, but they were placed in the custody of the Department of Health and Human Services.

All three suspects were taken to the Kennebec County Jail. Bail for Desjardins was set at $10,000 and $1,000 for Dillingham and Thompson.
