RUMFORD, Maine — One man remained jailed Sunday at the Oxford County Jail and a second was being sought in connection with a robbery Friday night.

Dustin A. Roberge, 21, of Rumford was charged with robbery, a Class A crime, and criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, a Class C crime, according to Rumford police.

Officers were dispatched about 8 p.m. Friday to the area of Waldo Street and Oxford Avenue for a report of a fight that was believed to have involved weapons, according to a news release issued Saturday by Police Chief Stacy L. Carter.

The investigation determined that two men had confronted a Waldo Street resident while he was working in his yard and demanded money, Carter said in the release. One demanded money while the other displayed a knife.

A friend and family member attempted to intervene and was also threatened by the man with the knife, police said. After taking money from one of the victims, one of men fled but was apprehended on Waldo Street.

Roberge is expected to appear Monday before a judge if he is unable to post $8,000 cash bail.

Police continued to search for the second suspect but did release information about him or ask for the public help in locating him.

The investigation into the alleged robbery was ongoing and more charges were expected, police said.
