BANGOR — Deb Colpitts threw Husson’s third no-hitter of the season and Haley Spiers, Kayla Merrill and Casey Lopes had three hits apiece as Husson posted an 8-0 victory to cap the North Atlantic Conference softball sweep over Lyndon State at O’Keefe Field on Saturday.

The Eagles won the opener 9-1.

Both games ended in the fifth inning due to the eight-run mercy rule.

In Game 2, Colpitts struck out one and didn’t walk anybody. Spiers homered and doubled and drove in two runs while Merrill (2 RBIs) and Lopes each had three singles for Husson. Colpitts doubled and singled.

In the opener, Kayla Merrill tossed five innings of six-hit, one-run ball with four strikeouts and two walks.

Lyndsay Merrill and Lopes each had two hits and two RBIs. Merrill had a triple. Sami Schultz and Nicole Andrade (RBI) each had two singles.

Katie Davis homered for Lyndon State (6-18, 3-9 NAC) and Dakota Crane doubled and singled.

On Sunday, Husson swept Johnson State 5-1 and 12-5 to improve to 22-10 overall and 10-2 in the NAC while Johnson slipped to 8-10 and 3-5.

Kayla Merrill earned the first-game win for the Eagles, allowing just three hits while not walking a batter and striking out three. Chelsea Brennan hit a solo homer while Lyndsay Merrill doubled and singled. Lyndsay Merrill sparked the Eagles with a two-run homer in the second game.

UMF, Castleton split

At Prescott Field in Farmington on Saturday, Courtney Fowler tossed a five-hit shutout, striking out four and walking three as the University of Maine-Farmington beat Castleton State (Vermont) to salvage a split of their twinbill.

Meryl Bond singled home Alison Hamilton in the fifth inning for the Beavers (5-19, 2-8 NAC).

Castleton State won the opener 11-0 in five innings.

Hamilton doubled and singled in the nightcap and Margaret Fogarty singled twice. Hannah Lust doubled.

There were no repeat hitters or extra-base hits for Castleton State (17-10, 8-2 NAC).

In the first game, Katie Gagne hit two home runs and a single and knocked in three runs. Kayla Wood threw a five-inning no-hitter with nine strikeouts and no walks.

Kayla Daigle singled twice and pinch-hitter Katie Traver hit a two-run triple.

Bates sweeps UMF

At Farmington on Sunday, Bates concluded a six-game weekend with a doubleheader sweep of the University of Maine Farmington 6-3 and 13-3.

The Bobcats (12-20) pounded out 10 hits in game one led by multi-hit performances from Karen Lockhart and Maddie Inlow and three stolen bases from Kira Shaikh. Brenna Callahan threw seven innings of four-hit ball to net the win.

Natasha DeRoche recorded the lone multi-hit game for the Beavers, going 2 for 3 with a run scored.

In game two, Bates knocked out 13 hits including home runs from Karen Lockhart and Callahan and multi-hit games from Emma Schiller and Victoria Fitzgerald. Freedman allowed three runs on five hits while striking out 11.

Hannah Lust had the lone multi-hit game for the Beavers (4-20), and Kianna Thompson added two RBIs.

BASEBALL

Husson earns three wins

At Henniker, New Hampshire, Ryan Rebar had three singles and delivered three runs to key a 14-hit attack as Husson salvaged a split of Saturday’s doubleheader with a 10-2 win over New England College.

NEC won the opener 4-0 behind the combined nine-hit pitching of Kyle Bernier and Vincent Backert.

In the second game, Ben Walls pitched a complete game, allowing nine hits and two runs with three strikeouts and one walk for Husson University of Bangor.

Andrew Curran, Brandon Gendreau, Kyle Bishop, Christian Corneil (2 RBIs) and Jordan Carter (3 RBIs) sparked Husson.

Steve DeLuca and Backert had two singles and an RBI apiece for NEC.

In the opener, Conor Crouse’s RBI single and Joe Paliotte’s RBI double keyed a three-run fifth inning that snapped the scoreless deadlock.

DeLuca had two doubles and an RBI. Backert had a double.

Curran doubled and singled for Husson. J.T. Whitten singled twice and Kyle Bishop doubled.

On Sunday, Husson swept NEC 7-1 and 18-6 to improve to 25-14 overall and 19-5 in the NAC while NEC slipped to 11-22 and 8-16.

Robert Graff notched the win in the first game as he gave up a run in five innings on five hits. He walked four and struck out four before Dennis O’Neil came on with two scoreless innings in relief, striking out two.

J.T. Whitten and Ryan Rebar had multi-hit games for Husson.

In the second game, the Eagles pounded out 23 hits to roll to the win. Carter had three hits to pace the attack while Whitten, Corneil, Rebar, Gendreau, Bishop, Darik Messier and Chase Allen each added two.

Castleton sweeps UMF

At Farmington, the Spartans extended their winning streak to nine games by taking two NAC games from the University of Maine-Farmington, 11-9 and 15-2.

In the second game, Taylor Vile had five singles and Nate Swahn had a homer, three singles and three RBIs as Castleton State (26-9, 17-4 NAC) completed the sweep with a 19-hit attack.

Nick Swim had three hits, including a double, and drove in two runs and Mike Ferro doubled and singled and knocked in four. Tyler Lord had two base hits. Sam Spencer and T.J. Fearon teamed up on a four-hitter.

Grayson Beressi homered and singled and drove in both runs for the Beavers (16-13, 9-11 NAC).

In the first game, Swim doubled and singled (3 RBIs) as the Spartans built an 11-2 lead before holding off the rallying Beavers.

Lord and Vile each had two hits and two RBIs for the Spartans and Jimmy Buckley and Tyler Hoare also had two hits each.

Sean Cabaniss had three singles and four RBIs for UMF and Trevor Hisler had a double and two singles and Jimmy Parks singled twice.

UMF drops two

At Hippach Field in Farmington on Sunday, Castleton State rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh to earn a 7-6 win over the University of Maine-Farmington in the second game of a NAC doubleheader for a sweep.

Castleton (27-9, 19-4) won the first game 2-1.

Nick Swim sparked Castleton in the second game with a grand slam.

Nick Attaliades-Ryan hit a two-run homer for UMF while Trevor Hisler notched a double, single and RBI.

In the second game, Luke Salerno scattered six hits, didn’t walk a batter and struck out nine to give Castleton the win.

Hisler singled twice for UMF (16-15, 9-13) and Grady had an RBI double.

Men’s Lacrosse

Husson 15, Lyndon 4

At Boucher Field in Bangor, Zack Glazier registered four goals and five assists on Saturday to power the Eagles to a NAC win over the Hornets.

Brandon Corbo scored four times and assisted on a goal for Husson (9-6), while Trent Sell posted two goals and two assists and James Seager scored twice. Kevin Nolan and Derek Driscoll added a goal and an assist each and Brandon Bosse netted a goal. Tom Lepage made eight saves.

Colin Young, Ricky Carroll, Robert Crupi and Kevin McCarthy tallied a goal apiece for Lyndon State (3-7). Ryan Leavitt racked up 22 saves.

MMA 15, GMC 4

At Castine on Saturday, Dean Samuelson’s four-goal, three-assist performance carried the Mariners to a NAC win over the Eagles.

Peter Moore scored four goals for Maine Maritime Academy (7-7), while Bronson Guimond (2 assists) and Nicholas Betti provided two goals each. Mike Fuller contributed a goal and four assists with Jack Taggert (assist) and Tim Grant each scoring once.

Jacob Rondeau and James Wilgus combined for 10 saves.

Dominic Wright and Richard Aberle Jr. each scored two goals to pace Green Mountain College (3-9). Carl Diethelm made five stops.

Women’s Lacrosse

Husson 16, UMF 0

At Boucher Field in Bangor on Sunday, Abi Staab scored five goals to lead the Eagles to victory in a NAC quarterfinal.

Mattie Russell added three goals for Husson (8-6) while Alissa Fallon chipped in with two goals and three assists to reach 100 career points. Anna Wolterbeek and Amanda Deshaies each added two goals. Kaitlin Dolloff made 11 saves.

Husson advanced to a Wednesday semifinal at No. 1 Castleton State (Vermont).

Ayla Allen paced UMF (5-8) with three goals while Rhi Jackson and Carly Raymond each added two. Patty Smith made 18 saves.
