Despite plans to reopen bright and early after a weeklong closure due to renovations, Bagel Central in downtown Bangor remained closed Monday.

According to the bakery’s Facebook page, propane expected to be installed Friday was rescheduled for installation Monday, consequently delaying the grand reopening.

The renovations added nearly 1,000 square feet to the eatery, including an additional kitchen and meeting space, owner Sonya Eldridge said. A wall between between the old kitchen and the new space, formerly the home of children’s book and toy store The Briar Patch, was knocked out and reframed, adding more cooking and prep space.

Before the construction, Bagel Central did its short-order cooking and baking in the same kitchen where bakers worked overnight shifts to make hundreds of bagels, bread and other goods for the next morning.

Although the main space will open Tuesday, the rentable meeting space still won’t open for a few months.
