AUGUSTA, Maine — Crews were quickly able to extinguish a fire in the kitchen area of Red Robin restaurant on Sunday night.

The fire broke out around 11:15 p.m., a little more than an hour after the establishment had closed for the evening, according to Augusta Fire Chief Roger Audette.

Audette said the restaurant’s dining area suffered no damage, as the fire was contained to the kitchen and ventilation areas.

The chief said crews were able to knock the fire down in about 15 minutes, and the cause was accidental.

Audette said Red Robin was closed on Monday but that workers are hoping to resume business within the next day or two.

Augusta firefighters were on the scene for about an hour and a half and no mutual aid was required.
