AUGUSTA, Maine — A local man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a burglary ring in central Maine, according to Augusta Deputy Police Chief Jared Mills.

Michael Joseph Gagne, 38, was arrested on a probation hold and is being held at the Kennebec County Jail, according to Mills.

A group of burglars allegedly hit commercial businesses in central Maine during the last few months, according to Mills, with 30 burglaries connected with each other.

Gagne was located while Augusta, Winthrop and Monmouth police, as well as Kennebec County sheriff’s deputies, were executing search warrants in the Augusta area, according to Mills.

Mills said Gagne’s arrest is a major breakthrough in the ongoing investigation.

“Because of everyone’s hard work, the Augusta Police Department feels confident that they have identified the suspects involved in this serial burglary ring and will continue to work hard putting these cases together so that all responsible can be taken into custody and formally charged,” Mills said.
