Janis Joplin tribute

BANGOR — Penobscot Theatre Company announced recently that it will offer “A Piece of Her Heart: A Tribute to Janis Joplin,” Thursday through Sunday, June 4-7, at the Bangor Opera House.

In the one-woman show, a concert piece, Indianapolis-based artist Karen Irwin will take the audience on a musical journey through her own personal transformation as inspired by her musical idol, Janis Joplin. Joplin used her “un-girly” voice and her no-holds-barred, blues-inspired performance style to triumph over her personal and social adversities, forever changing the face of women in music. With anecdotes and Joplin songs including “Mercedes Benz,” “Piece of My Heart” and “Bobby McGee,” Irwin will pay homage to the musical icon and deliver a rocking good time.

The Bangor-based band Rock Revelation featuring Heather Astbury-Libby will open each show.
