NEW LIMERICK, Maine — A local woman and her child escaped injury after a single-vehicle crash here Sunday.

The accident happened on Route 2 when Courtney Husayn, 25, was westbound in her 2009 Toyota, according to Aroostook County Sheriff Darrell Crandall.

The sheriff said that when Husayn reached onto the floorboard for her purse, she caused the vehicle to swerve to the right where it struck a guardrail.

Husayn was able stop the vehicle. She and her 16-month-old son were both wearing safety restraints and were not injured, Crandall said. The vehicle is believed to be a total loss.

Members of the Houlton Fire and Houlton Ambulance services assisted Deputy Sheriff Vance Palmer at the scene.
