BINGHAMTON, New York — Portland righty William Cuevas tied a career-high with 10 strikeouts and the Sea Dogs scored all six runs with two outs, defeating the Binghamton Mets 6-3 on Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium.
Portland is now 4-2 on its seven-game road trip, which ends Thursday night.
The Sea Dogs received 11 of 12 hits from the top five hitters in the lineup, each of whom had a multi-hit game.
Portland jumped on the board first for the sixth straight game, scoring two off losing pitcher Rainy Lara (2-1) in the second. Mike Miller nailed a two-run single to left field.
In the fifth, Keury De La Cruz blasted a two-run homer to right field, putting the ‘Dogs in front 4-1. De La Cruz leads the team with three homers and reached base four times.
Portland would add two runs in the seventh inning on a run-scoring double by Oscar Tejeda, who would score on a wild pitch.
Cuevas (4-1) earned his third straight win, retiring the first six batters. He allowed a run in the third inning on a two-out single by Brandon Nimmo.
In the seventh, the B-Mets scored two runs, but Jonathan Aro retired Nimmo, the potential tying run, to end the inning. Aro retired seven of the final eight batters faced to earn his first Double-A save.
The top 5 of Miller, Carlos Asuaje, Jantzen Witte, Tejeda and De La Cruz went a combined 11-for-22 (.500). Jonathan Roof went 1-for-3 with a run scored.
The Sea Dogs and Binghamton Mets conclude their four-game series on Thursday night at NYSEG Stadium. Kyle Kraus (0-0, 7.00) gets the spot-start for Portland. RHP Gabriel Ynoa (2-1, 3.97) takes the mound for Binghamton.
