PERHAM, Maine — A 40-year-old local man was killed Wednesday night in a single-vehicle crash on High Meadow Road, according to police.

Mark Skidgel had been traveling east about 10 p.m. when his 1998 Dodge Dakota pickup drifted off the roadway, struck a culvert, rolled over and then came to rest on its side, according to news release issued Thursday morning by Maine State Police Trooper Chuck Michaud.

Skidgel, who was not wearing a seat belt and who was partially ejected from the vehicle, was dead when members of the Caribou Fire and Ambulance arrived at the scene, Michaud said. Another motorist reported the accident when he came upon it.

The cause of the crash has yet to be determined and remains under investigation. Trooper Travis Luce is the lead investigator.
