ISLESBORO – Paul Edward Pendleton, 89, died on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at his home. Born in Islesboro on August 21, 1925, he was the son of Foster and Amelia (Wheelen) Pendleton.
A 1943 graduate of Islesboro High School, Paul served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the European, African, Middle Eastern and Pacific Theatres.
In April of 1944 after completing radio school in Newport, Rhode Island, he was assigned to the U.S.S. Holton DE 703. Paul was very proud of his days aboard the destroyer escort making two trips to Bizerte, North Africa, and then a year all over the Pacific.
On May 18, 1960, he married Marilyn Herbert in Islesboro.
Much of Paul’s time was spent gardening at home, and for 23 years as caretaker of an estate on Shipyard Point that had three owners during his time there.
Surviving is his wife of almost 55 years, Marilyn Pendleton. He was predeceased by brothers, Bernard, Stanwood, and Irvin Herbert; and a sister, Dorothea Wickstrom.
A graveside service will be held at 11AM, Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Islesboro.
