CHESTNUT HILL, Massachusetts — The Boston College Eagles erupted for nine runs and nine hits in the fifth inning to roll past the the University of Maine Black Bears 12-0 in baseball action Tuesday.

Blake Butera’s three-run double highlighted the inning, while Donovan Casey added an RBI double. Nick Sciortino, Michael Strem, Donovan Casey, Johnny Adams, Nick Sciortino and Jake Palomaki each chipped in with run-scoring singles.

Maine’s Jake Marks (2-5) suffered the loss as he was reached for six runs and eight hits in four-plus innings. Maine then went through two relievers in the fifth, Jeff Gelinas and Charlie Butler, before finally getting out of the inning.

Boston College’s Eric Stone (5-0) shut out the Black Bears for six innings as he gave up five hits and a walk while striking out seven. Cameron Giampetruzzi (two innings, one hit) and Brian Rapp (one inning, no hits) came on to finish off the Black Bears.

The Black Bears didn’t have an extra base hit with singles from Sam Balzano, Brian Doran, Scott Heath, Brett Chappell, Luke Morrill and Alex Cabrera.

Maine finishes the regular season with a three-game America East series at Albany with two games on Friday and one on Saturday.
