COLUMBIA FALLS, Maine — A camp building was destroyed before firefighters arrived at a fire here Wednesday afternoon, according to a fire official.

No one was injured in the fire off Ell Meadow Road on Wednesday afternoon, according to Dave Perham, chief of the Epping Volunteer Fire District, which covers Columbia and Columbia Falls.

“By the time we arrived, the structure was flat,” he said Wednesday night.

Because of windy conditions, trees and brush in the area had caught fire.

“We probably spent more time fighting the brush fire than the structure fire,” Perham said.

A storage shed was charred though other outbuildings remained undamaged, he said.

Firefighters were assisted by two forest rangers and received mutual aid from Addison and Harrrington firefighters, Perham said.

The cause is still under investigation, Perham said.
