SANFORD, Maine — A local man was arrested Tuesday on a burglary charge, according to state police.

Earl Cormier, 36, also had an outstanding warrant in York County for heroin possession, according to a statement from the Maine State Police.

Cormier is accused of entering a home in Lyman in April and stealing approximately $3,500 worth of jewelry and tools, the statement said. Police have recovered three rings.

On Tuesday, investigators obtained information that Cormier was at an Acton residence, and Cormier fled into the woods when police arrived.

Cormier surrendered an hour later and was transported to the York County Jail. Cormier, who is being held without bail, was charged with burglary and violating conditions of release.

York County sheriff’s deputies aided state police in the arrest.
