BANGOR, Maine — Police are warning potential color run participants about a scam targeting runners.
According to a posting on the Bangor Police Department’s Facebook page, a hoax event called Color 5 Mile has been circulating.
According to the post, police were tipped off when a producer at a Portland television station contacted the department asking whether permits were in place for the faux June 27 event.
Police subsequently contacted the event for a permit, but a call was never returned.
The Color Run, which hosts 5K events all across the country, is returning to the city Aug. 23. Color Bangor, an event benefiting the American Folk Festival, is scheduled for this weekend.
