BANGOR, Maine — It’s not too late to register for Color Bangor, a 5K fun run/walk to benefit the American Folk Festival on Sunday, May 17.
Online registration will be available at colorbangor.americanfolkfestival.com through noon Friday, May 15. Can’t register by then? You also can register in person. In-person registration will be available on the Bangor waterfront from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and from 7 to 9 a.m. Sunday, according to Dan Cashman, a board member for the American Folk Festival. Cash and credit cards will be accepted for in-person registration.
Registration is $50 for adults, $25 for kids ages 4 to 12 and free for kids ages 3 and under.
The run, which happens rain or shine, begins at 9 a.m. Sunday, May 17. Organizers are hoping for a beautiful day.
“Last I checked, it’s supposed to be partly sunny and 72 (degrees) on Sunday. So fingers crossed — I’m hoping that hasn’t changed,” Cashman said in an email Thursday.
Color Bangor is sponsored by Changing Seasons Federal Credit Union. Intended as a fun event, participants can run or walk the 5K.
The route incorporates the Bangor Waterfront and is punctuated by color zones at each kilometer park, where participants wearing white Color Bangor T-shirts will be sprayed and dusted with non-toxic colored cornstarch, creating a rainbow effect.
New for this year, Color Bangor will feature the Children’s Color Zone, an activity area designed for kids ages 4 to 12 to participate in kid-theme activities, such as a Color Toss, a Tire Run and a Color Crawl. It’s sponsored by Playland Adventures.
