SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — It’s been a long road for “Survivor” contestant and Mainer Dan Foley. He made it all the way to Episode 13, which aired Wednesday night.

Foley watched his last episode surrounded by friends, family, and fans. It was a surprising ending but Foley says he has no regrets.

“Survivor” was a dream Foley had been chasing for more than a decade.

“From the moment I saw Season One, Episode One, I was hooked,” Foley said.

It didn’t end the way he wanted but he says that’s OK.

“I played with my heart on my sleeve. That is the Dan Foley that is standing right here. I didn’t put on a facade for the cameras. I gave it everything I had and it wasn’t good enough but I’m OK with that,” Foley said.

Foley wasn’t happy with the move that got him voted off. It was an immunity play that protected one contestant and cost Foley. But Foley admits that it was a smart play.

“I was just so angry but it was a great move. He manipulated Carolyn, he saw what was happening, and I’m a linear thinker and it was obvious what I was doing. He used someone else to his advantage,” Foley said.

Foley says he would’ve rather come home with the $1 million prize but what he came home to, instead, will do just fine.

“My wife, Erin, was waiting at the airport with a Tony’s chocolate sugared donut in her hand and we went straight to Amato’s to get an Italian sandwich and some Humpty Dumpty potato chips,” Foley said.

Despite the disappointment, Foley says he played the game on his terms and left the game on his terms.
