WOODSTOCK, Maine — An Oxford County man allegedly broke into two houses, stole items and set fire to the homes, officials said.

Jordan Caldwell, 19, was arrested by the State Fire Marshal’s Office on Friday, according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.

Caldwell is facing a pair of arson and burglary charges, McCausland said.

Caldwell allegedly broke into and set fire to a Gore Road home on March 26, gutting the house, McCausland said. On Friday, a house just down the street from the first fire was destroyed by fire and will likely have to be demolished.

The damage to the two buildings will exceed a half million dollars, McCausland said. In each case, Caldwell allegedly stole a number of items from the houses before setting them on fire. He lives a short distance from the residences with his parents.

Caldwell was taken to the Oxford County Jail after his arrest.
