WATERBORO, Maine — It turns out “Mad Max: Fury Road” leads to Main Street in Waterboro and Howe and Howe Technologies.

“They basically contracted us to build the world’s nastiest tracked vehicle,” said CEO Geoff Howe.

Howe and his twin brother, Mike, built a custom, one-of-a-kind tank for the new “Mad Max” movie, which premiered May 15. The director, George Miller, named their vehicle “The Peacemaker.”

Based on its look, the vehicle won’t bring much peace to the post-apocolyptic world of “Mad Max.”

“‘Fury Road’ was a really secretive project even when we were down there for nine days behind the scenes,” said Geoff.

The project, which they started in 2010, is just the latest accomplishment for the brothers, who have become known nationally for their extreme vehicles.

They created The Ripsaw in the late 1990s and it quickly became the fastest tracked vehicle in the world. They also made a tank for a “G.I. Joe” movie.

Geoff handles company business as CEO and Mike designs their vehicles. They have about 15 employees who they call “special forces.”

“They’re the best. They know how to do it, when to do it, and how to repair it,” said Mike.

The brothers say they didn’t know how the movie would use their vehicle, but after seeing it, they say they’re thrilled with the Peacemaker’s five-minute action sequence.

They won’t say whether any more movies are in their future, but the Howe twins say they’ve always got something up their sleeves.

“Mad Max: Fury Road” is now playing in theaters nationwide.
