PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — A Presque Isle woman escaped serious injury Tuesday afternoon when she was struck by a car while walking across a downtown street.

Presque Isle police Cpl. Tom Pearson said that Jacqueline Goodine, 51, was hit while walking across the road at the intersection of Davis and Main streets.

Kandy Barker, 36, the driver of a Honda Elantra, had stopped at a stop sign on Davis Street just before the accident. Pearson said he believes that as Goodine started to cross Davis Street, Barker started to turn onto Main Street and struck the pedestrian.

Goodine was taken by Crown Ambulance to The Aroostook Medical Center to be treated for cuts, bruises and scrapes. She since has been released.

No charges have been filed.
