LEEDS, Maine — When officers arrived at 54 Fish St. on Monday to investigate reports of gunfire, they learned the man who lives there is a convicted felon and not allowed to possess guns, according to police.

Guy Schultz, 43, was arrested Monday “after he fired a gun close to his neighbor’s property,” said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety. “Schultz told troopers he was shooting at a rat.”

Schultz was convicted of felony burglary in 1991 and is prohibited from owning any firearms, McCausland said in a press release issued Tuesday.

“Found inside his house was an arsenal of handguns, rifles, shotguns and silencers,” he said.

Schultz was taken to the Androscoggin County Jail, and agents from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms were called to the residence.
