BRUNSWICK, Maine — A 19-year-old Brunswick man was arrested Monday night after a Brunswick police officer allegedly followed his motorcycle as it traveled down Longfellow Avenue at more than twice the posted speed limit.
Michael Steven Worden faces seven criminal charges including motor vehicle speeding more than 30 miles per hour over the limit, operating without a license and failure to stop for an officer, according to Brunswick Police Cmdr. Marc Hagan.
Brunswick Police Officer Brian Funke allegedly spotted Worden on his 1993 CBR 600 Honda speeding on Maine Street at about 11:15 p.m., Hagan said. Funke attempted to stop Worden as he turned left on to Longfellow Avenue, but Worden allegedly sped up, driving at 74 miles per hour at one point along the residential street that borders Bowdoin College.
At the end of Longfellow Avenue, Worden allegedly slowed but did not stop at a stop sign before turning on to Harpswell Road, McLellan Street and then into his driveway, Hagan said.
Worden was also charged with failure to register a vehicle, failure to stop at a stop sign and failure to produce evidence of vehicle insurance. He was taken to Cumberland County Jail on $500 cash bail. Worden is scheduled to appear in West Bath District Court on July 21.
