Luke Morrill and Scott Heath each garnered first-team honors on Wednesday evening as the 2015 America East Baseball All-Conference Teams were announced during the league’s awards banquet in Lowell, Massachusetts.
Justin Courtney of Bangor and Logan Fullmer each picked up two awards in the voting of the conference’s coaches. Both were named to the All-America East second team, Courtney as a starter and Fullmer as a reliever.
Courtney also was a unanimous choice for the All-Rookie squad, while Fullmer picked up an All-Academic accolade.
Upstart Maryland Baltimore County claimed three of the four major prizes, including Pitcher of the Year Conrad Wozniak, Rookie of the Year Matt Chanin and Coach of the Year Bob Mumma.
Jack Parenty of Stony Brook was selected as the Len Harlow America East Player of the Year.
Heath, a senior from Westbrook, received a first-team nod for the second straight season. The outfielder/designated hitter was a unanimous pick after batting .301 with six home runs and 29 RBIs, along with 16 doubles and 29 walks.
On the mound, the left-hander was 6-3 with a 3.86 earned run average with 60 strikeouts in 79⅓ innings, including three complete games.
Morrill, a senior third baseman from South Thomaston, garnered his first all-league honor. He led UMaine with a .357 average that included two homers, 28 RBIs, 16 doubles and seven stolen bases.
Courtney made an impression during his first collegiate season for the Black Bears. He posted a 5-5 record and 2.83 ERA in 13 games, including 12 starts.
In league play, the freshman right-hander went 4-1 with a 2.13 ERA. He was a unanimous selection for the 12-member All-Rookie squad.
Fullmer had a breakout junior season as he anchored the UMaine bullpen. The right-hander had a 1-1 record with a 3.11 ERA and four saves.
In securing his first all-conference recognition, Fullmer allowed only 50 hits in 55 innings and logged 55 strikeouts, holding opposing hitters to a .240 average.
He was one of 10 All-Academic honorees after earning a 3.74 grade point average studying food science and human nutrition.
Morrill also received a New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association first-team selection Wednesday, and Heath was named to the third team.
Parenty led America East in batting average (.370), RBIs (45), hits (68), triples (7) and total bases (101). He also stole 15 bases and had a .434 on-base percentage. The outfielder made only one error.
Wozniak, a junior righty, turned in a league-best 1.50 ERA that ranks 12th in the country. He owns a 3-1 record with 58 strikeouts in 66 innings, holding opponents to a .232 average.
Mumma guided UMBC to its highest-ever regular-season finish and the No. 2 tourney seed with a 32-18 record (14-10 AE). It is only the retrievers’ second postseason appearance since 2008.
