YARMOUTH, Maine — A man was arrested late Thursday after a brief vehicle pursuit on Route 1, according to a posting on Yarmouth police’s Facebook page.

Police attempted to stop a vehicle shortly after 10 p.m. for a routine traffic stop, according to the post, but the driver, Dale Havens, 35, fled southbound.

The chase didn’t last very long, because Havens crashed at the intersection of Route 1 and Interstate 295 and fled on foot into the woods.

A passenger, whose name wasn’t disclosed, was taken to an area hospital for injuries. Police from other agencies, including Falmouth and Cumberland, as well as a police dog unit from Freeport, set up a perimeter to search for Havens, who was found nearly an hour later in a housing complex.

Havens subsequently was arrested on multiple warrants, violating conditions of release and failing to stop for a police officer.
