WARREN, Maine — A 52-year-old Warren man is being held without bail after police said he caused a crash Monday night, refused to stop for a deputy and was found to be driving drunk with a suspended license.
The driver, Richard A. Rytky, has a lengthy record of motor vehicle offenses and suspensions that date back to 1984, according to motor vehicle information filed by police with the court. There are at least seven suspensions and one conviction in 2004 for operating after revocation as a habitual offender.
Rytky was charged Monday night with operating under the influence, violating a condition of release, failure to stop for an officer, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident and unlawful use of a license.
Judge Patricia Worth ordered Rytky held without bail until a court hearing next month.
The sheriff’s office received a report of a Jeep Wrangler sideswiping another vehicle by the entrance of Wal-Mart in Thomaston at 9 p.m. Monday, according to affidavits filed by the Knox County sheriff’s office. A sheriff’s officer who caught up with the vehicle on Oyster River Road near Patterson Mill Road turned on his blue lights and siren, but the vehicle did not stop, according to the court documents.
Eventually, at the intersection of Route 90, the Jeep stopped and the deputy parked his cruiser in front of the vehicle to prevent it from leaving. The deputy reported ordering Rytky out of the vehicle at gunpoint, but he refused. Rytky was removed from the vehicle by a second sheriff’s officer who arrived at the scene.
