Bruce Nicholas has been hired as the new varsity football coach at Lewiston High School, according to the Lewiston Sun Journal.

Nicholas, the Blue Devils’ defensive coordinator for the last two years, was promoted to replace Bill County, who retired after 16 years of guiding the Lewiston program.

The 56-year-old Nicholas is a former head coach at Oak Hills of Wales and had stints as an assistant at Gray-New Gloucester, Jay and Edward Little of Auburn.

Lewiston finished 1-7 in Eastern Maine Class A in 2014 and will be pursuing its first Class A state championship since 1982.
