BRUNSWICK, Maine — Following a three-month investigation, police executed a search warrant in Brunswick on Wednesday and arrested two men in connection with selling heroin, according to Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Nathan Donovan, 33, of Brunswick and Melvin Givens, 35, of New York were charged with aggravated trafficking of heroin and are being held at the Cumberland County Jail.

The two were arrested at a residence in the Linnhaven Mobile Home Park, where Givens had been staying with Donovan and Donovan’s father, Robert Tardiff, 68, McCausland said Thursday afternoon.

The ongoing investigation by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency Mid-Coast District Task Force into cocaine and heroin sales in Lincoln, Sagadahoc and Cumberland counties centered on Givens, who had been observed traveling to Maine from New York with large amounts of the drugs, McCausland said.

He would stay at the homes of local drug users and distributors to sell his drugs and frequently change his locations to evade law enforcement, according to McCausland.

When members of the Brunswick Police Department located Givens at 14 Kurt St. in the mobile home park, they also determined he and Donovan were conducting drug sales from that location.

Agents obtained the search warrant for the residence, and on Wednesday afternoon the Brunswick Police Special Response Team entered and secured the residence without incident, McCausland said.

A subsequent search of the residence by the MDEA agents turned up approximately 27 grams of heroin and 4.5 grams of cocaine with a combined street value of $5,500. Also found were Suboxone strips, marijuana, a digital scale and other items associated with drug sales, according to McCausland.

Givens and Donovan were taken in custody without incident. Robert Tardiff also was arrested on outstanding warrants for unpaid fines.

Tardiff was taken to the Brunswick Police Department, where he posted bail.

Bail was set at $50,000 for Givens and $25,000 for Donovan.

McCausland said MDEA agents have identified a number of other individuals who have provided their homes to Givens for the purpose of selling drugs, and additional arrests are likely.
