BREWER, Maine — The busy afternoon commute was slowed Thursday by a water main break on Wilson Street, according to officials.

A 2-inch line let go near the Big Apple gas station and the Brewer Municipal Pool around 4:30 p.m., Brewer Water Department Superintendent Rodney Butler said Friday.

Crews never had to shut off water, but area businesses and homes ran on limited pressure while crews repaired the break, according to Butler.

Butler said the line is an older one he believes dates back to the 1950s or 1960s.

Westbound traffic on Wilson Street was detoured to State Street near the Village Green Motel while eastbound traffic was not affected, Butler said.

Bangor Water District crews assisted with the repairs.
