PORTLAND, Maine — Caribou native Ryan Soucie has been named the new Cheverus High School boys varsity basketball coach, the school announced in a news release Friday.
“Ryan is an energetic coach who has a great deal of passion for the game and will provide continuity to the basketball program. He is the perfect fit to carry on the rich tradition of Stags basketball,” Cheverus Athletic Director Gary Hoyt said in the release.
Soucie has served as an assistant coach to Dan Costigan for the past three seasons and was previously an assistant boys basketball coach at Scarborough High School (2004-08).
He earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of Southern Maine in 2003 and played for three seasons on the school’s men’s basketball team. He received a master’s degree in school counseling from USM in 2010.
He is employed as a counselor at Scarborough High School and lives in Windham with his wife, Lonnie.
Costigan resigned from Cheverus in April after three seasons and a 27-31 record.
