PORTLAND, Maine — Richmond’s Joe Biagini allowed just four hits in 7 ⅓ innings to lead the Flying Squirrels to a 4-3 Eastern League victory over the Portland Sea Dogs Tuesday night at Hadlock Field.
Biagini (4-3) struck out six and walked just one. He allowed just one baserunner — a triple by Carlos Asuaje — through the first five innings as Richmond took a 4-1 lead.
The Flying Squirrels scored twice in the second inning on an RBI single by Daniel Carbonell and Ryan Lollis scored on a Justin Haley wild pitch.
Haley (1-7) gave up four runs and four hits in 4 ⅓ innings while walking three and striking out five.
Richmond added two more runs in the fourth. Daniel Carbonell attempted to steal second base and Portland catcher Luis Martinez threw the ball into center field, allowing Mitch Delfino to score from third base. Carbonell advanced to third on the play and subsequently scored on a sacrifice fly by Jackson Williams.
The Sea Dogs closed the gap in the sixth. After Jonathan Roof singled and Blake Tekotte walked, Marco Hernandez bunted the runners over and Carlos Asuaje delivered an RBI groundout. Jantzen Witte followed up with an RBI single to make it 4-3.
The Sea Dogs reached Josh Osich for back-to-back two-out singles by Aneury Tavarez and Luis Martinez in the ninth. After a passed ball allowed both runners to move into scoring position, Jonathan Roof grounded out to shortstop, with Rando Moreno’s throw just barely beating Roof to the bag at first base.
