NORTHPORT, Maine — A local man accused of putting his domestic partner in a chokehold Tuesday night was arrested and charged with aggravated domestic violence assault.
Police received a 911 call asking for help from a Beech Hill Road home at about 9:45 p.m., according to a media release issued Wednesday by the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office. When deputies arrived at the home, they were met by the alleged female victim and two teenage girls, who said 46-year-old Corey Pendleton assaulted the woman.
“During the altercation, Pendleton was alleged to have thrown the caller’s phone to prevent her from calling law enforcement,” Lt. Jason Trundy wrote in the news release. “The complainant and witnesses indicated the victim was placed in a chokehold from behind during the assault.”
Pendleton’s face was injured during the incident, Trundy wrote, adding that when deputies tried to arrest the Northport man, he physically resisted being placed in handcuffs. Eventually he complied and was brought to the Waldo County Jail to be booked.
Pendleton was charged with aggravated domestic assault, obstructing the report of a crime and refusing to submit to arrest or detention.
Bail has not been set for Pendleton because of the severity of the domestic assault charge, Trundy wrote.
