ROCKLAND, Maine — Police said they are investigating the suspicious death of a 33-year-old woman found Thursday afternoon in a local boarding house.
Shawna Jones was found dead at the Brunswick House, according to Maine State Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.
Rockland police Sgt. Donald Finnegan said shortly after 4 p.m. that the investigation had just started and Maine State Police have been called in.
Police and emergency medical personnel were called about 3:30 p.m. to the Brunswick House on Main Street for a report that a young woman was not responsive.
The woman’s body was found in a third-floor residence where she lived with husband, Shawn Jones, McCausland said.
McCausland said at 8:30 p.m. that state police detectives had joined Rockland police in investigating the death. McCausland said state police have not yet classified the cause of death.
He said an autopsy was expected to be performed Friday by the state medical examiner’s office. The woman’s body was removed from the house shortly after 8 p.m.
He said no one is in custody.
The woman had worked as a cook at the Rockland Cafe.
The Brunswick House has been the scene of numerous police calls over the years but has not been an issue for the City Council since 2013, when it was granted a conditional lodging license after police voiced concern about the number of incidents occurring there.
The Brunswick House has 28 rooms and is located at 204 Main St.
