SCARBOROUGH, Maine — The Town Council voted Wednesday to renew its public parking agreement with owners of the Higgins Beach Inn.
Since 2011, the town has contracted with proprietors Bob Westburg and Diane Garofalo to allow employee use of town-owned parking spaces in exchange for inn employees closing and locking the gate at dusk. The council voted Monday to extend the contract for another five years.
Town Manager Tom Hall also reported that the town has received upwards of 600 absentee ballots for the school budget validation referendum on Tuesday, June 9, more than the total number of absentee ballots in any previous school budget referendum.
Unless exceptions have been granted, absentee ballots had to be returned to Town Hall by 4 p.m. Thursday.
