PARKMAN, Maine — Maine State Police on Saturday issued a BOLO — be on the lookout — for a Parkman man who they want to question about the homicide of his ex-girlfriend, and it states they believe he is armed and dangerous.
Robert G. Burton, 38, is wanted by police for questioning about the death of Stephanie Ginn Gebo, 37, who was found unresponsive by her children on Friday.
He was still on the lam Sunday, officials said.
Police were called to their home at 46 Kulas Road at about 6:15 a.m. Friday, and when Piscataquis County Sheriff’s deputies arrived, they determined Ginn Gebo was deceased, state police Lt. Troy Gardner said Friday.
“The relationship ended a week ago,” the lieutenant said.
Burton is 5 feet 9 inches tall and has brown hair and blue eyes. He is believed to be driving a black, four-wheel drive, extended cab Toyota Tacoma that has a Maine wildlife license plate 489-AKJ.
“There are no confirmed sightings of either him or the truck,” Stephen McCausland, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman, said Saturday afternoon. “That is where it stands.”
The body of Ginn Gebo was taken to the medical examiner’s office in Augusta, but no further details about her death are being released at this point, McCausland said.
Burton has a long criminal history of domestic violence. He has convictions for kidnapping, assault with a dangerous weapon, terrorizing, assault, tampering with a witness, trafficking in prison contraband and several violations of conditions of release, and he has been in and out of jail and prison for more than a decade, according to a background check done with the state’s Bureau of Identification.
Burton also has used the aliases Robert Elliot and Robert Glen Elliott, according to state records.
When arrested in 2002 for criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, being a felon in possession of a firearm, assault and burglary, Burton first eluded police for two weeks before they found him at an abandoned Willimantic camp. He was arrested after a four-hour standoff, and he was sentenced in 2003 to 10 years in prison.
“The subject has made statements indicating he will not be returning to jail,” the state police BOLO states.
Burton has been staying with his grandparents in Monmouth, it states.
“The subject should be considered armed and dangerous and caution should be used,” the alert states.
Investigators, who asked for the public’s help in finding Burton, have received numerous calls from across the state, but “we haven’t had ‘the one,’” McCausland said, referring to the one tip that will lead to Burton.
“I suspect a number of drivers in black Toyota pickups have been pulled over by police,” McCausland said, thanking the public for their assistance.
The Parkman address is just down the narrow dirt road from where David Grant was shot to death on May 12. Zachery Grant, the victim’s son, was later charged with murder in connection with the case. Burton stopped his truck as he was driving past that day to find out what had happened, and he expressed concern about something so horrific occurring just down the road from where he lived with his girlfriend and her two children.
Burton lived at the home with Ginn Gebo and her children until last week, Gardner said. He also has lived in Monson, Guilford and Corinth, according to state records.
“If he is in Maine, I suspect he knows that [he’s wanted],” McCausland said. “So far, he’s unaccounted for.”
