ORRINGTON — Old Home Week, Orrington’s historical and family-oriented annual event will start Friday, July 17, and will continue through Sunday, July 26, at various locations around Orrington and Bucksport. The Bucksport Bay Festival will take place Friday, July 24-Sunday, July 26.
The Curran Farm Charity Music Festival will kick off Old Home Week with bluegrass music on 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, July 18. Music will be provided by many bands, including Freshly Cut Grass, Dog Mountain, Original Condition, Northbound, Mr. Moon, Wyld Blue Yonder and Back Ridge Road. A Chili Cook-Off will benefit the Eastern Maine Medical Center Foundation Fund. The Curran Farm will host a homestyle barbecue. That evening the annual Evening at Wiswell Farm event will take place. It will feature the Acadia Reenactors settlement camp, quick draw demonstrations, the announcement of the Orrington Citizen of the Year, community food booths and the firing of the cannons.
Old Home Week’s final weekend will be capped by the Curran Homestead Living History Farm and Museum Open House celebrating Maine Open Farm Day on Sunday, July 26. The Farm of the Year winner will be announced at the event.
During the week, the Orrington Public Library will be the home base for many events including the annual photography contest, used book sale, art classes, craft workshops and historical displays. Library hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday.
In between, festival goers will be treated to the home decoration contest, organ recital, Tri for the Y Sprint Triathlon, open houses at the Enterprise Grange and the Orrington Historical Society, alumni basketball game, nature events at Fields Pond Audubon Center, barbecue chicken and baked bean suppers, the annual trip down memory lane at the storytelling party, and the Endless Yard Sale.
