ORRINGTON — The public is invited to an afternoon tea and concert at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 20, at the East Orrington Congregational Church to celebrate “A Time to Remember,” the newest CD release of Maine singer Kristyn Murphy.

The concert, a mix of Broadway, Celtic, jazz and pop music also will feature guest artist Abbie Stands of Allentown, Pennsylvania. Accompanying the singers will be pianist Dora Rexrode, cellist John Frankland and violinist Gabrielle Price. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the church and by calling 825-3404. Proceeds will benefit the church.

The concert is a part of a new series of fundraiser shows that Murphy and Stands will be doing together during the 2015-2016 performing season, a project that aims to preserve history and culture through the fine arts.

Murphy, who has spent the last year working with musicians in Maine and New York to record her new album, said “We are performing a series of shows at venues that are important to communities, that help nurture and preserve culture, such as old theaters, museums, libraries, churches, and heritage centers. I am excited to be able to launch this project as we also

celebrate the release of my new album.”

Stands, who is featured on several duets on Murphy’s new album, said, “We have formed a duo called Nightingale in hopes of exposing the public to new music, much loved and forgotten songs, and creating a greater appreciation for all genres.  We in turn desire to help preserve buildings and sites of cultural importance through this concert series.”

Audiences attending the concert can expect a variety of entertaining vocal numbers from both singers, as well as a number of duets. Concert-goers will be treated to the songs featured on Murphy’s new album including, “Secret Love” made famous by Doris Day, the late 1800’s piece “In the Starlight” known and loved by fans of Laura Ingalls Wilder, Celtic tunes such as “Green Fields of France,” and Broadway numbers such as “It’s a Grand Night for Singing.”
