PORTLAND, Maine — There are new details on the Noyes Street fire that killed six people in November 2014.
Cumberland County District Attorney Stephanie Anderson said charges will be filed against property owner Gregory Nisbet in the next two weeks, but it’s unclear what those charges are.
Anderson said she will meet with Nisbet’s attorney to discuss a possible plea deal. Anderson said the charges have to do with Nisbet’s responsibility as a landlord.
“Obviously the landlord didn’t set the fire. We’re not talking about an arson case, here; we’re talking about the liability of a landlord for deaths caused by a fire,” Anderson said.
There is no word on when that meeting between Anderson and Nisbet’s attorney will take place.
