ST. GEORGE, Maine — The town’s purchase of a waterfront parcel with two piers has been finalized.

Paperwork was signed Thursday for the acquisition of 10 Cold Storage Road, Town Manager John Falla said in a news release.

Voters approved the purchase for $810,000 at the polls on May 11.

The ad hoc committee that was formed to investigate whether or not the town should purchase the property is continuing with a modification to its duties. The committee will be looking at a use and development plan for the long-term use of the property and is expected to issue a report to the Select Board in January 2016.

In the meantime, the town is accepting proposals from interested parties for the short-

term use of the property -– that time frame being from July 1, 2015, through the summer of 2016. The town has received a handful of inquiries already, and is asking that those who are interested submit a proposal to the town manager by June 26, Falla said. The town is asking that any proposal meet the town’s rules, regulations and ordinances, and if needed, that any applicant be prepared to submit a certificate of insurance.

Following the June 26 deadline, the proposals will be reviewed and those that are the right fit for the town, for the property, and for this time frame will receive serious consideration, the manager said.

More information is available by contacting Town Manager John Falla at the Town Office at 372-6363.

The property totals nearly two-thirds of an acre and contains two piers — one 100 feet long and the other 70 feet long. Two concrete launching ramps, a two-story garage and several sheds also are located on the parcel.
