In researching a recent post about Maine-born professional sports players, I came across a number of old-time (and not-so-old-time) baseball players with great nicknames.
Maine guys with nicknames like “Piano Legs” and “Climax” got up to bat or took the mound over the last 150 years or so. Some nicknames were self-explanatory, describing a player’s speed or physical attributes. Others — like “Piano Legs,” there — we can only guess at the origins of.
Try your hand at figuring out which Maine-born player got which clubhouse nickname. You’ll probably want to retake the quiz a couple times to see, by process of elimination, what some of the real answers are. I’ll warn you, it’s a tough quiz.
