CALAIS, Maine — Calais firefighters are investigating a blaze that displaced the occupants of two apartments at 333 Main St. on Wednesday night.
The origin of the fire, which caused smoke and heat damage to the building, remains unknown, Assistant Fire Chief Ken Clark said.
As of late morning Thursday, firefighters did not have the name of the owner of the building or the proper name of the pharmacy housed inside, Clark said.
Firefighters from Calais and its mutual aid partners were called shortly before 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. They had the blaze under control within an hour but remained on the scene at 9 p.m. checking into reports of smoke in nearby buildings.
“We were just checking to make sure,” Clark said Thursday, adding no damage was found to nearby buildings.
