ROCKLAND, Maine — A 25-year-old Rockland man is in critical condition Saturday at a Portland hospital after he fell 17 feet from the balcony of a downtown pub.
The incident occurred shortly after 11:30 p.m. at the Time Out Pub on Main Street. The pub has a balcony on the back side of the building which faces the city’s waterfront Harbor Park. According to Rockland Police Sgt. Donald Finnegan, the man was trying to sit on the rail of the balcony and fell backward.
He fell about 17 feet, striking his head.
The man suffered critical injuries and was taken by ambulance to Maine Medical Center in Portland. Finnegan said that a LifeFlight helicopter was called in but because of strong winds, the aircraft could not make the flight.
The man’s name has not been released because police are in the process of notifying the family. Police interviewed witnesses and staff, Finnegan said.
