ROCKLAND, Maine — A 25-year-old Rockland man died Saturday from injuries he suffered Friday night after falling from the balcony of a downtown pub.

Mark Boynton died at Maine Medical Center in Portland, according to Rockland police.

Boynton worked as a bartender at Cappy’s Chowder House in Camden.

The accident occurred shortly after 11:30 p.m. at the Time Out Pub on Main Street. The pub has a balcony on the back side of the building that faces the city’s waterfront Harbor Park. According to Rockland Police Sgt. Donald Finnegan, Boynton was trying to sit on the rail of the balcony and fell backward.

He fell about 17 feet, striking his head.

Boynton suffered critical injuries and was taken by ambulance to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport and then by ambulance to Maine Medical Center in Portland. Finnegan said that a LifeFlight helicopter was called in, however, because of strong winds, the aircraft could not make the flight.

There is an outpouring of condolences on the Boynton’s Facebook page from friends and relatives.
