GLENBURN, Maine — A fight between two men in a pit bull’s dog cage ended with one going to the hospital and the other going to jail, according to the Department of Public Safety.

Jesse Merritt, 25, of Charleston is facing an elevated aggravated assault charge in a stabbing that sent a 38-year-old Glenburn man to Eastern Maine Medical Center, according to spokesman Stephen McCausland.

The stabbing occurred at the victim’s home, McCausland said.

McCausland said the two men were familiar with each other and began fighting after crawling into the dog cage. The dog was not involved and is owned by the victim.

McCausland said it was not clear why the men were fighting in the cage. The altercation was reported around 9 p.m.

Merritt was taken to the Penobscot County Jail after his arrest.
