ROCKLAND, Maine — Harbor Master Ed Glaser was back at work Friday morning after being placed on paid leave Monday.
Glaser declined comment, other than to say he had met with City Manager James Chaousis on Thursday and was back at work Friday.
The city manager declined to discuss why he placed Glaser on leave, saying it was a personnel matter. The administrative leave, however, came after Glaser clashed with councilors over whether he could generate an additional $30,000 in revenues for the harbor budget or make an equal amount in cuts.
He returned to work as the city harbor was gearing up for a busy weekend. The administrative leave originally was going to last through next Monday.
The annual Rockland Lobster Boat Races scheduled for Sunday attract a large number of visitors who watch from land, the harbor and from the Rockland Breakwater.
Veteran city employee Raymond Athearn remained on paid leave, which started about four weeks ago. No reasons have been given publicly for why Athearn, who has worked for the city since 1963 and is employed at the transfer station, was put on leave.
