BANGOR — The community is invited to attend Habitat for Humanity of Greater Bangor’s first Volunteer Awards and Recognition Celebration event 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, in the Penobscot Room at the Sea Dog restaurant.
Lin Lufkin has been selected to receive the inaugural Robinson Speirs Memorial Award. Angel Caron has been selected to receive the Volunteer of the Year Award.
Robinson Speirs served on the board of directors during the organization’s early days, overseeing the construction of homes. He effectively worked full-time for the organization as a volunteer, serving in his official role as treasurer of the board, while also leading fundraising, construction and volunteer management functions as well.
Lin Lufkin, a retired vice president and project manager from Nickerson and O’Day, has volunteered for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Bangor on and off since 2001, overseeing and managing construction on the three Habitat homes built since 2010. Lufkin has served on the board of directors since 2010, chairs the building site and construction committee, evaluates a majority of the repair projects completed via the affiliate’s A Brush With Kindness program, works closely with partner families to develop and finalize floor plans, and reaches out to businesses in the community to garner financial and in-kind donations to support Habitat’s work.
Angel Caron, a partner at Loiselle, Goodwin and Hinds, recently became involved with the organization and this year volunteered more than 200 hours to strengthen the affiliate’s accounting procedures. She has provided critical support to the finance committee, of which she is a member, to restructure the procedures that directly impact the organization’s ability to manage effectively its finances.
The community is invited to help celebrate award recipients, learn how Habitat volunteers are making a difference in the Greater Bangor area and meet some of its partner families. No R.S.V.P. required.
A contribution from Nickerson and O’Day is making the event possible.
