OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine — A kayaker reported missing by his wife early Thursday afternoon was found safe on shore, but not before officials from the local fire department and U.S. Coast Guard launched a search by sea and air.
The man, whose name was not released, was kayaking off Ocean Park just after noon Thursday when his wife, who was watching him through binoculars, lost sight of him, according to Capt. Brett Jones of the Old Orchard Beach Fire Department.
The U.S. Coast Guard already diverted a helicopter in the air to assist with the search, according to Petty Officer Kurt Hein of Coast Guard Sector Northern New England. Before long, Hein said, the man was found on shore in no distress.
