Heading to the farmers market? It’s still early in the season, but there are already some delicious greens and reds ready to be enjoyed. Here’s what some Maine farmers say folks are enjoying right now.
Bok choy
Bok choy, a variety of cabbage, “abound at markets,” said Mark Guzzi from Peacemeal Farm in Dixmont. Guzzi said that this season it’s selling “faster than we can harvest.”
Radishes
At Cornerstone Farm in Palmyra, there are six varieties of radishes growing this season. Carole Mapes of Cornerstone says that their stand is a popular vendor for radishes because of their options. One of the reasons is because Hanne Tierney, owner, “loves bunching radishes, so that’s why we have so many,” said Mapes.
Kale
Kale, which has infiltrated restaurant menus and infused smoothies for a few years now, continues to be popular this season, Guzzi said. “Kale is ever popular because it’s so rich,” he said.
