BANGOR, Maine — Nearly 6,000 Emera Maine customers were without power in Greater Bangor on Monday afternoon, according to the company’s website.

Emera Maine reported shortly after 3 p.m. that approximately 5,922 customers in Bangor, Glenburn, Orono, Hudson, Levant, Hermon and Kenduskeag were in the dark.

The cause of the outages was not immediately known but the company said it hoped to restore service as soon as possible.

Bangor police Lt. Cathy Rumsey said the power outage temporarily knocked out traffic lights controlling the intersections of Ohio Street and Griffin Road, Griffin Road and Kenduskeag Avenue and Broadway and Burleigh Road.

“These intersections are all being controlled with temporary stop signs at this time, but commuters can avoid delays by avoiding these intersections,” Rumsey said in a news release issued shortly before 6 p.m.
