PARKMAN, Maine — A reward of $2,500 is being offered for information leading to the capture of a local man wanted for murder in connection with the death of his ex-girlfriend.

Robert G. Burton, 38, also known as Robert G. Elliot, is accused of killing Stephanie Ginn Gebo on June 5, a week after they broke up.

The manhunt for Burton, who police believe is armed and dangerous, continued on Monday, according to Stephen McCausland, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman. The last confirmed sighting of Burton happened on June 19 in Guilford.

“We are aware of the reward and the search continues,” McCausland said in a Monday email.

Burton has a long criminal history that includes time behind bars for three domestic violence incidents involving another local woman in 2000, who he threatened to kill when they broke up, Piscataquis County District Attorney R. Christopher Almy said earlier this month.

Upon his release from prison in 2002, Burton went searching for the woman and ended up threatening her mother with a rifle and knife before fleeing into the woods. He was on the run for 12 days and was found at an abandoned camp in Willimantic. He pleaded guilty in Piscataquis County Superior Court to four counts of burglary; criminal threatening; four counts of theft; possession of a firearm by a prohibited person; and assault for the 2002 crimes, and was sentenced in September 2003 to 10 years in prison.

When Burton was released on June 3, 2011, he was put on probation for four years. Burton’s probation ended on June 4, and he is accused of taking Ginn Gebo’s life the day after.

Her body was found in her Kulas Road home in Parkman by her young children, who are staying with their maternal grandparents. A friend has set up a GoFundMe account to raise money for their care.

People from all over the region have contributed to the GoFundMe account set up last week to raise the reward money, said Erika Kennedy of Guilford, who was a friend of Ginn Gebo.

“Our entire community has pulled together to raise this reward,” she said on Friday. “Whatever we raise — 100 percent — goes to the person who provides police with information leading to [Burton’s] arrest.”

Burton is 5-foot-11, approximately 180 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. He sometimes wears glasses and was last seen wearing camouflage clothing and carrying a dark backpack.

Those with information about Burton’s whereabouts are asked to call state police at 973-3700 or 911.
