The Boston Bruins finalized a trade with the Florida Panthers on Wednesday that sent forward Reilly Smith and Marc Savard’s contract to the Florida Panthers for forward Jimmy Hayes.
The Bruins also pulled off another deal during a busy offseason, signing former Anaheim Ducks winger Matt Beleskey to a five-year, $19 million contract, according to a TSN report.
Beleskey produced one of his best years in 2014-15 with 22 goals and 10 assists for 32 points in 65 regular-season games and eight goals in 16 playoff games. He has 112 career points in parts of seven seasons.
Smith’s deal was reported to be two years at $3.425 million per season. The restricted free agent has played in 203 career games with the Bruins and Dallas Stars and has 100 points, including 13 goals and 27 assists last season.
Hayes had 19 goals and 16 assists for the Panthers last season. His career totals in parts of four NHL seasons with the Panthers and Chicago Blackhawks are 36 goals and 30 assists.
The Savard deal was made for financial reasons. He has not played in the NHL since the 2010-11 season because of concussions but still has two years left on a seven-year, $28 million contract.
Savard’s 807 career NHL games and 706 career points came with Calgary, the New York Rangers, Atlanta Thrashers and Bruins.
